Do You Remember When You Spread Your Wings?
When I spread my wings ― leaving California to study at a bible institute in far-off Chicago, flying bush planes in South America, encountering Barbara in Costa Rica―I tried to move on from my childhood fundamentalist faith.
Only later did I realize the grace that filled those childhood years.
So today I say (it’s like confessing a sin),
“Hello, my name is James and I’m still―sort of―a fundamentalist.”
